Spring – the beautiful season of flowers. But for many, it is also a season of allergies. If you also suffer from running nose, sneezing and redness of eyes then don’t take it casually. Visit your doctor or eye care specialist.Dr

Dr. Ritika Sachdev, eye specialist, Centre for Sight, says, “It is common for adults as well as children or even pre-schoolers to have eye allergies during spring. Children are more prone to allergies due to exposure to dust and pollen grains.” Timely treatment of eye allergies is very important. Do watch out for spotting the symptoms of allergies and visit an eye specialist as soon as possible. Symptoms of eye allergies:

  • Redness of eyes
  • Itching
  • Swelling or puffiness
  • White discharge from the eyes
  • Teary or watery eyes
  • Soreness or pain in one or both the eyes

Prevention of eye allergies:

  • Gently wash your eyes with cold water as often as you can
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes or using coarse material for wiping your eyes
  • Keep your surroundings clean with the help of disinfectants
  • Ensure that you wash your hands and feet regularly
  • Have foods rich in zinc like whole grain foods, eggs, cereals, milk and seafood which will build up a healthy immune system

However, remember not to take over-the-counter medicine or eye drops unless prescribed by your eye doctor.   *The views expressed here are solely those of the author in his private capacity and do not in any way represent the views of Centre for Sight.
